Case Study 5

Yankasa Association of USA

Overview

Yankasa Association of USA Inc (Bronx, NYC) is a registered non-profit organization and Masjid – the premier Ghanaian-American, Pan-African, Social and Islamic Multicultural Center catering for the needs of immigrants, families, and Americans from all walks of life. We were approached by the leadership team and Council of Elders to envision and design a new logo concept that can stand the test of time.

The Challenge

The membership and executive leaders were undergoing a ‘great debate’ of how to improve the image of the Association.

  • Design a simple new logo with explorations and/or variations using the old logo.
  • Think outside the box and present a unique color that represents the community.
  • Improve the branding, registration forms, and website content (online presence).

The Solution

Based on the challenge, the vision, mission, and goals (briefing from meetings) were clear from the start. Our founder, as a lead designer of the Association, explored new possibilities.

  • The concepts of revival and simplicity were explored based on the logo works or concepts of a great designer located in New York City.
  • Ensure the ideas of Islam (example: green color, Mosque, and the crescent) for explorations.
  • Keep it simple and clean, almost a “Corporate Style” for the NYC-flavor.

The Result

Yankasa Association members, leaders, and elders have been very satisfied with the logo and deigns. Since 2014, the logo can be found letterheads, business cards, website, flyers, envelopes, award letters or crafts, and many other touch points. In the original comment of the executive leader (President) of the Association (Tanko):  “your design works are Great! You’re really a talented designer.” The founder and team members are grateful for the opportunity to deliver ‘simplicity by design.’
